Syphilis is a chronic venous disease which evolves in stages involving numerous organs and systems. The incubation time may vary between 10 and 90 days with a 3 weeks average. The etiological agent is Treponema pallidum subsp. pallidum, a Gram negative bacterium belonging to Spirochaetales order, movable, microaerophilus, not cultivable in vitro.
In this section AXA Diagnostics offers the IFA treponemic test FTA-ABS IgG (Fluorescent Treponemal Antibody Absorption test) which represents the most sensitive test for the diagnosis of luetic infection and the confirmation test in case of positivity of other screening tests.
